Chresoula "Sue" Kounelas

Chresoula “Sue” Kounelas, 102, passed on into the arms of God on April 29, 2022, in her home as she slept, just as she always wished.

She was born on December 9, 1919, the daughter of Nicholas and Theodora (Gogas) Damalas. She married Antonio “Tony” Kounelas on November 2, 1947. They had two children, Sophia “Gail” Gagnon (Dennis) of Stratham, NH and St. Petersburg, FL, and William “Bill” Kounelas (Claire) of Bedford, NH.

Sue lived her entire life in Manchester. After high school she worked various jobs such as, retail at Sears Roebuck and McQuade’s, stitching at Tam O’ Shanter and finally retiring from Pandora Industries at 62. She then moved on to her favorite career- raising her three grandchildren.

She nursed her beloved Tony for over 5 years as he struggled with Alzheimer’s, passing away in 2000. Sue was a tower of strength and dignity and the best role model to her family.

Sue is survived by her children and their spouses, three grandchildren: Zachary Gagnon of FL, Christopher Kounelas (Natalie) of Bedford, and Brianna Remillard (Josh) of FL, and two great grandchildren, Zoey and Maxwell along with several nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Maria Damalas.

She is predeceased by her siblings, Aspacia “Patsy” Ballas, Soterios “Ted” Damalas and John Damalas.

We will wrap ourselves in her love and miss her dearly every day of our lives.

Family members and close friends are invited to gather on Friday, May 6, 2022, from 10:00 AM with the service to begin at 11:00 AM at St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover Street, Manchester. Burial will follow the service at Pine Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s name to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03104, or the hospice team from the Manchester Visiting Nurses Association of Manchester, 1070 Holt Ave # 4, Manchester, NH 03109.
