Janet C Gallagher

Janet Gallagher, 95, of Bedford, died peacefully at Bentley Commons on Friday, March 31, 2023.

Born in Manchester on October 22, 1927, to Rene and Emily VanDeCatsye. She always wanted everyone to know she was a twin. She graduated from Manchester High School West in 1945 where she was a Blue Knights cheerleader. After graduation, she married Joseph (Joe) Gallagher and had four sons, Gary, Jimmy, Joey, and Timmy.

Janet and Joe operated the New Deal Fish Market in Granite Square, and later ran two cafeterias for local businesses.

Janet was a member of the Manchester Women’s Club for many years. She also loved to play golf as a member of both Intervale and Derryfield Country Clubs. Other hobbies included painting, knitting, quilting, arts and crafts, and any other social activities that brought her together with family and friends.

She is survived by her son James and wife JoAnn (Yankee) Gallagher of Merrimack; son Timothy and wife Denise (Gagne) Gallagher of Bow; daughter-in-law Nancy (Young) Gallagher of Bedford; 6 grandchildren, and 9 greatgrandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband Joseph, her sons Gary and Joseph, her parents Rene and Emily VanDeCatsye, her stepmother Mary VanDeCatsye, her twin sister Joan Pratte, and her sister Margaret VanDenBergh, and stepsister Cecilia Olivier.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bentley Commons where she resided and received loving care for the last 9-1/2 years. She loved living at Bentley and the staff and residents there became part of her extended family.

We are also grateful for the care and comfort the team from Amedisys Hospice Care provided to Janet and her family.

SERVICES : There are no calling hours. A service will be held at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester Street, Manchester, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM with burial immediately following at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
