Maria M. (Lee) Altman, 85, passed away in her sleep at home on May 30, 2025.
Born on October 30, 1939, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, of Catherine Gardner and Dudley Heath, and given Willie Lee's name.
Maria attended the Convent Of Mercy Academy "ALPHA" in Kingston, Jamaica, and worked at Colgate-Palmolive. She lived in Kingston until she and her husband, Burnett Altman, moved their family to Staten Island, NY in 1967, and lived there for nearly 40 years. She retired from St. Vincent Medical Center of Richmond as a billing clerk before moving to Goffstown NH where she lived 18 years. St. Lawrence Parish became her church family. The final 9 years were without her devoted husband.
Maria was preceded by her parents, her husband, a sister Nora Sloley, a brother Allan Heath and her sisters-in-law Allan's wife Maria and her husband's sister Gwen, JoAnn Heath and Sonia Heath.
She is survived by her children Joseph Altman (Essie), Arlene Altman, Dwight Altman (Rosie Vargas), Andrea Freeman (Jamie), grandchildren Joseph Altman (Tiffany), Christina Green (Jun), James, Jeremy and Jonathan Freeman, great grandchildren Brooklynn and Harlem Green, Sakura Altman, siblings Cecil Lee (Sweetie), Jennifer and Richard Wong, Errol and Maurice Heath, her late sister Nora's husband (Billy) and several nieces and nephews.
Over the years she shared her creativity through crafting, sewing, (including sewing, by hand, her daughter's wedding dress even continuing to bead the bodice the night before the wedding though her hands were deformed by rheumatoid arthritis) drawing, writing personal poems and gardening. She will be remembered by many for hosting, in her home, yearly Christmas sing-alongs with Celia Nalty at the reigns and John DePonte tickling the ivories.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Food for the Poor.
The family extends a special thank you to those who helped to care for Maria and bring her joy.
