Mary C Schehl

Mary C. Schehl, 89, of Bedford died on February 23, 2022, the last of eight children in her family. She was born in Manchester on March 2, 1932, the daughter of James and Clara (Allaire) Sweeney. She was predeceased by brothers John, James, Richard, and Robert Sweeney and by sisters Katherine O’Brien, Eileen Hickey and Janice Beard.


Mary grew up and attended schools in Manchester where she met and married her late husband, Robert A. Schehl. Together they traveled and lived in Okinawa, Japan; Bitburg, Germany, and the Philippines while Robert was in the United States Air Force. They returned to Manchester where they settled in and raised their family.


She loved her family and especially enjoyed the last family reunion she attended. She relished spending time with her six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


Mary is survived by her son, Steven Schehl and his fiancé Leslie Kennedy of Bedford, her daughter Pamela (Schehl) Thompson and her husband David of Bedford, her grandchildren, Thomas Proulx and his wife, Mary-Beth, Christopher Proulx, Samantha Schehl, Casey Schehl, Patricia Thompson, and Royce Thompson. She will also be greatly missed by her great grandchildren, Maddie, Tess, and Ethan Proulx, Dominic Proulx and Stevie Schehl, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


She was predeceased by her husband Robert Schehl, daughter Patricia Jo Proulx, daughter-in-law Stephanie Schehl, and her longtime companion Mike Sroda. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 4, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester Street, Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 12:00 PM at Saint Raphael the Archangel Parish, 103 Walker St, Manchester. Burial will follow immediately at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford.
